Mr Biden would host Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida for the first trilateral U.S. -Japan-Philippines leaders’ summit, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

The leaders were set to “reaffirm the ironclad alliances” between the three countries, “discuss trilateral cooperation,” and “further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific and around the world,” Ms Jean-Pierre said.

In addition to the trilateral talks, Mr Biden was set to host Mr Marcos for a meeting “to review the historic momentum in bilateral relations.
