Police arrest vigilante for killing suspected carjacker

The Police Command in Lagos State said it arrested a vigilante for allegedly killing a suspect handed over to him by an individual in a community in the area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Monday.
Mr Hundeyin said that the Itire Police Division got a distress call early morning Monday at about 5.00 a.m. from a resident.
He said that the resident, who claimed to live at Shonde Street, Itire, reported that some thieves vandalised his car and after raising the alarm, a suspect was arrested.
The police spokesperson said that the suspect was handed over to a vigilante in charge of the street (name withheld).
“The complainant further stated that to his surprise, the thief he handed over to the vigilante alive was set ablaze instead of taking him to the police station for proper investigation. The vigilante has been arrested and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
