NSCDC deploys 35,000 officials nationwide ahead of Easter

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 35,000 personnel to provide security nationwide as Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This is contained in a statement by the NSCDC spokesperson, CSC Babawale Afolabi on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr Afolabi said that the corps Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, directed zonal commanders alongside state commandants to oversee the deployment within their jurisdiction.
Mr Audi said that the deployment was an attempt to ensure tight security before, during and after the Easter celebration.
He said that the officers and men were also to ensure adequate protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure in the country.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to commemorate Easter.
Mr Audi directed operatives of the anti-vandal unit, special intelligence squad, transport and mining marshals, special female squad, special force among others, to ensure round the clock surveillance.
He said that the corps would work in collaboration with sister agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
The commandant urged members of the public to support the activities of security agencies, by giving useful and timely information on suspected acts, and persons for prompt and appropriate response.
Mr Audi felicitated with Christians on the successful completion of Lent and Easter celebration.
