Easter: FRSC cautions motorists against overloading, speeding

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo state command, has cautioned motorists against overloading and speeding to avoid mishaps during the Easter celebrations.
Ezekiel SonAllah, FRSC sector commander in the state, gave the warning at the end of a three-day Easter enlightenment and sensitisation talk held at the Ado-Ekiti and Benin garages on Friday in Akure.
Mr SonAllah, who said that the Easter sensitisation and enlightenment programme was held in nine different motor parks in the state, advised drivers to observe traffic rules.
The sector commander said that the goal of the corps was to reduce road traffic crashes and create a safe motoring environment in Nigeria.
Mr SonAllah disclosed that the road crashes, which claimed eight lives in the past two days in the state, was caused by burst tyres and loss of control.
He, therefore, appealed to drivers to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on any journey, particularly during the festive period.
“So, we are appealing to our drivers, we need to avoid overloading our vehicles, avoid going at excessive speeds and install speed limit devices in our vehicles.
“Also, we need to go for standard tyres instead of used tyres (Tokunbo) because we need to value our lives, and the lives of passengers.
“It is also compulsory for commercial vehicles to install speed limit devices, while drivers should move with the prescribed limit to avoid unforeseen circumstances that may occur on highways.
“We don’t want any lives to be lost and we want all drivers and passengers to have a safe Easter and Sallah celebrations,” the sector commander said.
Mr SonAllah said that the command had deployed 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one towing truck, 572 regular marshals and 429 special marshals for the Easter special patrol in the state.
