The Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday, ordered that a 50-year-old driver, Mustafa Bashiru, be remanded in prison custody for reckless driving and knocking down a pedestrian.

The chief magistrate, O.O. Latunji, gave the order after he could not fulfil the N250,000 with two reliable sureties bail conditions granted him.

Latunji adjourned the suit until April 22 for trial.

The police prosecutor, Oluseye Akinola, had told the court that Bashiru, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with causing grievous injury.

Mr Akinola added that the defendant committed the crime on March 24, at about 4:45 p.m., in front of the D-cart building, Ring Road, Ibadan.

He said Mr Bashiru recklessly drove a ‘Lzzan’ bus with registration number BDG988YH and hit a 27-year-old woman, Adedolapo Oyewumi, leaving her critically injured.

According to Akinola, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 18 of the Road Safety Act of Oyo State.
