The Anambra State government has warned residents, business owners, nightclubs, and bars, among others, to avoid engaging in noise pollution.

It extended the warning to event centres, industries and religious organisations.

Celestine Anere, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade)’s managing director warned on Sunday in Awka, the state capital.

“We are calling on the leadership and members of various religious organisations, nightclub owners, industries and other interest groups operating in the state to desist from causing noise pollution.

“Anyone or organisation caught will be dealt with according to the law,” he stated.

He warned as the brigade served demand notices to business owners creating unhealthy environmental noise.

Mr Anere said excessive noise posed a significant threat to the tranquillity and well-being of the people in the environment.

“We want our streets and markets to be devoid of noise with strict adherence to the state’s environmental laws in the best interest of public health.

“All religious houses, clubhouses, markets and other entertainment outlets should operate within enclosed and sound-proof facilities with regulated use of speakers.

“Ensure that you give due consideration to neighbouring residents during and after any celebration or event,” he said.
