NSCDC deploys 1,200 operatives in Edo ahead of Eid-el-Fitri

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Edo State command, has said it deployed 1,200 operatives to maintain law and order during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration in the state.
The Federal Government on Sunday declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays to celebrate the Islamic festivities.
In a statement issued in Benin City on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor, the command’s Commandant, Mr Gbenga Agun, assured residents of a peaceful celebration.
According to the NSCDC boss, adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
Mr Agun directed the special forces in the corps to join regular officers to ensure adequate security of lives and property during the festival.
“Our job is to protect lives and property, so you must look out for criminals, hoodlums, and mischief-makers seeking to compromise the peace of the state and deal decisively with them. Our personnel will provide adequate security in places of worship, motor parks, recreational centres, and other places to prevent any form of threat to lives and property,” Mr Agun said.
The commandant congratulated Muslims in the state on the celebration and prayed for the peace and progress of the state and the nation in general.
He, however, cautioned holidaymakers to celebrate in moderation and be law-abiding in their activities.
He called on them to assist security agencies by giving timely and credible information to nip crime in the bud.
