Essex residents and people across the UK were in the warmth on April 13, as temperatures soared above the national average for April, with the highest of the year recorded in Writtle, near Chelmsford.

According to meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer, the thermometer peaked at a balmy 21.8°C, marking a significant spike from the typical April temperatures, which usually range between 13 and 14°C.

Despite the enjoyable weather experienced over the weekend, Ms Glaisyer warned of a forthcoming shift in weather patterns. The meteorologist explained that lower pressure systems moving from the north towards the UK are expected to usher in colder north-westerly winds, causing temperatures to drop.

“Lower pressure sits out towards the north of the UK, slowly sinking its way southwards—for the rest of the weekend and into the start of the working week, it will bring with it some colder north-westerly winds,” she said, according to the BBC.

This change in weather dynamics will likely persist throughout the remainder of the weekend and into the start of the working week.

In light of these developments, temperatures in Essex are forecast to fluctuate between 11°C and 14°C during the upcoming week.

Additionally, residents can anticipate gusty winds and intermittent showers across the county as the weather system traverses the region.

While the brief spell of scorching temperatures provided a welcomed glimpse of summer, Essex residents are advised to prepare for cooler weather conditions in the days ahead.
