VON partners customs to fight fake news, misinformation

The Voice of Nigeria has offered its platform to fight fake news misinformation and disinformation about the Nigerian Customs Service.
The decision was reached when the Comptroller-General of NCS, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, paid a courtesy visit to his VON counterpart, Jibrin Baba-Ndace in Abuja.
Mr Ndace said, “Men of the Nigerian Customs are doing a lot in all parts of the country and some even pay the supreme price. People across the country need to know the efforts you are putting in the job and as well correct the negative impressions they have about the service. We want to make our platforms available to you and your organisation, because NCS relates with border communities and is doing so much. We broadcast in Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Fulfulde, French, Arabic Swahili and English languages. I want us to work together, because, you are doing a lot and generating huge revenue to the Federal Government that people need to know.”’
Mr Ndace said both organisations would also collaborate to sensitise the citizens to the positive results of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He commended Mr Adeniyi for being a role model for the younger generation, adding that his ability to combine his public relations skills and professionalism as a custom officer was remarkable.
He added, “You have made us proud as a public relations professional. You have reached out to community leaders, engaging public relations skills of strategic communication at every level. You are one of those who pioneer independent broadcast for organisations in this country.’’
.
On his part, Mr Adeniyi said he was at VON to underscore the importance of open governance.
He said, “We are serving an administration that is not only focussed on delivering dividends of democracy, but investing in the renewed hope for citizenry, economy recovery, political stability and security of the nation. We need to communicate this to the citizenry. It is important they have an understanding that government have to take tough decisions once in a while.’’
Mr Adeniyi noted that VON is very strategic in communicating the visions of the government to the citizens. He pledged to partner with VON in letting Nigerians appreciate the efforts of the President in changing their economic condition, enhancing national security and giving a legacy of political stability.
