Court remands man for allegedly defiling a minor

A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 32-year-old man, Tony Chigoke, in a correction facility for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp charged Chigoke with rape, contrary to section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.Chigoke.
The presiding judge, Michael Bawa, however declined to take Chigoke’s plea for lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter.
Bawa directed the prosecutor to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He adjourned the matter until May 15 for further mention.
Earlier, NSCDC prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court that the matter was reported at the corps’ office in Kafanchan by the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre on April 19.
Audu said Chigoke approached the girl’s mother in the Jaba Local Government Area and requested to take the girl to Abuja to live with his sister and ease the mother’s burden and she obliged.
He noted that Chigoke took the girl to his house in Kafanchan and defiled her.
