As of Thursday, residents of Kaduna were forced to buy petrol at N1,000 per litre from the black market amid scarcity in the North-West state.

While most fuel stations were not dispensing fuel, others increased their prices to between N750 and N810 per litre as motorists struggled to buy the product.

The recent development caused only a few commercial operators to provide transport services with a sudden increase in fares.

Residents trekked to their various destinations, while those who used commercial transport paid almost double the price.

Ahmad and Shehu, both state university students, said that before the fuel scarcity, they paid N200 from Kawo to Kaduna State, but currently, it is between N300 and N400, Vanguard news reports.

Mr Shehu also said, “Many have resorted to trekking in order to reduce the distance, but the hot weather has not made it easy.”

The situation resulted in fewer vehicles on the roads, as many car owners had parked their cars because of the fuel price or the long queues at fuel stations.
