Don Jazzy is mere influencer: Wizkid

In a brewing controversy, Nigerian artiste Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, has labelled Mavins record CEO Don Jazzy as an “influencer.”
Despite typically maintaining a low profile online, Wizkid recently engaged with fans on X.
A fan asked the artiste to weigh in on Mavin Record signee Ladipoe’s recent remarks.
“Wizkid Ladipo still talk nonsense yesterday o, Abeg enter that one too.”
In response to the tweet, Wizkid replied, “Lol, I’m never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer. Next.”
Ladipoe’s tweet referenced a pivotal moment in 2022 when Wizkid declared in an interview with 10 magazine that “Rap is Dead.”
In the tweet, he mentioned that Nigerian rappers, who persevered through a period when many declared hip hop as a genre dead, are now observing Afrobeat artistes facing their own challenges or changes.
“Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own,” he said.
Fans have been quick to react to Wizkid’s tweet. Some expressed excitement that the “old Wizkid” is back, while others voiced concerns about perceived disrespect to Don Jazzy.
@Guccistarb said, “Na influencer sign ladipo ke the Wizkid I know is back!!!”
@Abazwhyllzz said “All this energy wey you Dey waste for twitter,if you use the same energy for studio you for dun win your own Grammy oo.”
@DanielRegha said, “”Never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer”, but u collabed with Tiwa Savage (on Ma Lo) in 2017 while she was signed to Don Jazzy?
“Talk about d¤uble standards. Belittl!ng people is a sign of !nsecurity. Remember no-one knows tomorrow, a newbie today might revive ur career in the future. Talk smart.”
