Gunmen kidnap Nigerian Navy Secondary School student, father in Ondo

Suspected gunmen have abducted a student, Jethro Onose, of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri, in Ose Local Council Area of Ondo state.
Master Onose, a senior secondary school (SSS) 1 student, was kidnapped on Monday with his father, Maliki Onose, while returning to the school after the holidays.
Peoples Gazette gathered that the gunmen waylaid the duo of the son and father along a route between the Edo and Ondo road.
Damilola Ogunrotimi, the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman, confirmed the kidnap case in a phone chat.
“Yes, it’s true, and we have reported it to the appropriate security quarters for action. The student was returning to school when the gunmen waylaid him and his father.
“I’m aware the security agencies are currently on top of the situation as I speak with you. I have been within the school’s premises to ensure the students and staff are also calm,” he told The Gazette on Monday.
When contacted, Ondo police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya could not immediately confirm the incident.
Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area for a proper briefing.
“So, give me time to get back to you,” she said.
Earlier, Oluyemi Fasipe, a popular Ondo-based activist, confirmed the incident in a tweet on the microblogging page X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Jethro Onose, an SS1 student of Navy School Imeri, and his father, Mr. Maliki Onose, have been kidnapped along the Edo/Ondo state route. Details are still sketchy,” Mr Fasipe wrote on Monday.
