Four U.S. cops killed serving warrant on felon in possession of firearm

The fourth cop died a few hours after he was rushed to a hospital.

Four police officers of the U.S Marshals Task Force were killed on Monday at Charlotte neighbourhood, North Carolina while serving a warrant on a felon in possession of a firearm.

Another four sustained gunshot wounds when officers rushed to the scene of shooting for rescue as another person opened fire on them.

“Today we lost heroes who were out simply trying to keep our community safe, ” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief, Johnny Jeninings, said confirming the development in a press conference on Monday.

The fourth officer killed in the incident, identified as Joshua Eyer, died a few hours after being rushed to the hospital.

A 17-year-old male and a woman found in the home after the attack were arrested and are being questioned.

U.S. Attorney General, Merrick B. Garland, in a statement on Monday condemned the incident.

“Every single day, Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers put their lives on the line to apprehend some of our country’s most dangerous criminals,” Mr Garland said.

He said, “Today, three of those dedicated public servants made the ultimate sacrifice. Multiple other officers were critically injured while carrying out this operation to protect their community.”
