The Karu Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Thursday dissolved the 12-year-old marriage between Fatima Abdulraheem and her husband, Olaniyi Akeem, over lack of respect.

The judge, Aliyu Alhassan, dissolved the marriage after the couple could not settle its differences.

He ordered the couple to collect a divorce certificate from the registrar’s office.

Ms Abdulraheem said she married the respondent 12 years ago under Islamic law, and the union was blessed with three children.

She told the court that there was no respect in the marriage, and as such, she could not remain in it.

The petitioner, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the union.

The respondent (husband), however, did not object to the petitioner’s request. He gave his consent to the divorce through a written letter.
