Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has approved the release of N637.5 million to pay registration fees and monthly allowances to indigent students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri.

The executive secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Bala Isa, made this known while briefing reporters on the development on Monday in Maiduguri.

Mr Isa said the amount was N393.5 million for the monthly allowances of 1,088 students, which were N30,000 from January to December.

“The sum of N202.5 million is for allowance to be paid to another set of 1,013 students, while the sum of N41.3 million is for registration fees of 997 newly-admitted students on scholarship in the college,” he said.

The executive secretary said the governor had advised the students to be hard working, as the state government was ready to employ all of them to work for communities in their respective local government areas at the end of their training.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to education, particularly with the measures being taken to encourage education at all levels.

Mr Isa also urged citizens of the state to make maximum use of the opportunities.

The students who would benefit from government support are those studying for their national diplomas in nursing, community nursing, community midwifery, and basic midwifery.
