UK boxer jailed seven years for killing mum after drug overdose

A Northampton Crown Court in the United Kingdom on Monday sentenced 21-year-old pugilist, Finn Henry, to jail for manslaughter, after killing his 54-year-old mother, Suzanne Henry, BBC reports.
Mr Henry was said to be under the influence of drugs on May 1, 2023, when he attacked her mum at their house in Madeley, Staffordshire, while she was filming his weird behaviour.
Paramedics found it difficult to identify if she was male or female due to the severity of the injuries she sustained. She died two days later in the hospital.
Staffordshire Police said Mr Henry was arrested on the street of Newcastle Road that night, acting suspiciously, with blood stains on him. Police declared him medically unfit for interrogation until the next day.
The boxer who told the court that he took the drug identified as ketamine, which made him think his mother was a “demon or a devil,” making him attack her, denied murder but admitted to manslaughter, a plea also accepted by the prosecution.
The judge, Rupert Mayo said, “Your sister and your father have put forward very moving tributes to her today and what makes this so sad and tragic is that I suspect you agree with every word they said. But you took her life.”
Satisfied that Mr Henry was genuinely remorseful, taking full responsibility for his action and steps to address his drug addiction, the judge sentenced the defendant to seven years and four months in prison, with an extra four years on extended licence.
Mr Web said, “The events on May 1 last year had an immeasurable and devastating impact on Suzanne’s family,” Detective Inspector Adrian Webb said, adding that the diseased family had shown dignity, resilience and strength during the period. Even though our investigation is complete, my thoughts, and the thoughts of my team that worked with Suzanne’s family, are still very much with them.”
