Judge blocks auction of Elvis Presley’s iconic Graceland mansion

A Tennessee judge, on Wednesday, halted the planned auction of Graceland, the legendary home of Elvis Presley, amid a heated legal battle involving Presley’s granddaughter, actress Riley Keough.
Presley, often referred to as the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” was a legendary American singer and actor who became one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century before he died in 1977
According to BBC, the mansion, a cherished landmark for Elvis fans worldwide, has become the focal point of a contentious dispute between Keough and Naussany Investments, a company asserting ownership claims based on an allegedly unpaid loan.
As the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, Riley Keough inherited Graceland and the bulk of Elvis Presley’s estate following the death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, last year.
Naussany Investments alleged that the late Lisa Marie, daughter of the late Rock ‘n’ Roll singer, had used the estate as collateral for a $3.8 million loan that went unpaid, prompting the company to schedule an auction for 23 May.
However, Keough contends that the loan documents were fraudulent, asserting that her mother’s signature had been forged.
Confirmed by BBC, In response to these allegations, Shelby County Chancellor JoeDae Jenkins issued a temporary injunction on Wednesday, blocking the auction.
Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises expressed relief and vindication in a statement to the BBC, saying, “As the court has now made clear, there was no validity to the claims. There will be no foreclosure. Graceland will continue to operate as it has for the past 42 years, ensuring that Elvis fans from around the world can continue to have a best-in-class experience when visiting his iconic home.”
Riley Keough, 34, is known for her diverse roles in film and television. She has been at the centre of this legal saga. Her attorney declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.
Graceland Mansion, purchased by Elvis Presley in 1957, underwent a remarkable transformation into a personalized sanctuary reflecting his eclectic tastes and larger-than-life personality.
This two-story colonial revival-style mansion, nestled in Memphis, Tennessee, became the epicentre of Elvis’s world, where opulence met creativity.
With its welcoming atmosphere, Graceland played host to countless gatherings, welcoming friends, family, and celebrity guests alike.
Today, Graceland stands as a revered cultural landmark, preserving Elvis’s legacy and offering visitors a glimpse into the extraordinary life of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
