Abuja-bound train with passengers onboard derails in Kaduna

A train heading to Abuja with passengers onboard got derailed in Jere, a village in Kaduna State, in the early hours of Sunday.

No death was recorded in the accident that saw three carriages of the train skid off the track.

The Nigerian Rail Corporation has yet to make an official statement on the accident. However, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident in a statement.

NSIB said it was aware of the incident and that its men had been deployed to the accident scene. 

“NSIB is aware of a derailment of an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna which occurred halfway into the journey at Jere,” the statement reads. ”A go team has been deployed to the site of the accident.”
