Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has advocated more collaborative efforts to end the out-of-school children syndrome, child labour, street begging and hawking, among other forms of violence against children in society.

He made the position in a statement on Monday in Lafia by his Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, to commemorate the Children’s Day.

Mr Gwamna quoted Mr Jatau as saying that the house under his watch would continue to enact laws and make resolutions that would protect the rights of the children as future leaders.

The speaker congratulated the children on their special day, calling for the provision of the best education for them to build a brighter future and gain a better society for all.

Mr Jatau, while describing children as special gifts from God, said there was the need for parents, guardians and the authorities concerned to ensure that the Nigerian child was given the necessary support.

“Through love, education and moral training we can build an egalitarian society for the betterment of all,” he said.

Mr Jatau lamented the growing rate of out-of-school children, child labour, street hawking, begging and other forms of violence against children.

The speaker emphasized the need for collective responsibilities to tackle the menace in society.

“If parents, guardians and others join hands with government in tackling child abuse, child labour and other forms of violence against children, it will go a long way in promoting peace, unity and societal development,” he said.

Mr Jatau described education as the best instrument to fight poverty, other societal vices and a lasting legacy to give a child, hence the need for the parents and guardians to give topmost priority to the education of children.

He reiterated the assembly’s commitment to support any children-related policies and programmes as well as making laws that would protect the rights of the children to better their lots in society.

Mr Jatau advised parents and guardians to reflect on the significance of the day and do the needful for the benefit of all.
