A non-governmental organisation, The Lekan Adewoye Foundation, on Wednesday in Ilorin sponsored the enrolment of 1,000 indigents in the Kwara Healthcare Insurance Scheme.

The foundation’s Oyun Local Government Area Coordinator, Kolawole Sadiq, said the NGO was proud to support the enrolment of beneficiaries from all electoral wards in the Kwara South senatorial district.

He said this was to ensure equal representation and opportunities for all.

Mr Sadiq said the initiative was a testament to their “shared commitment to the well-being” of their communities and people at the grassroots.

“We are inspired to do this because the agency recently launched its Kwara South office to bring service closer to our people. We also acknowledge the stride of the Kwara Government in all areas of endeavour to ensure equitable health delivery to all and sundry,” he said.

In her remarks, the Kwara Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam, commended the foundation for the gesture.

She pointed out that the state government was ready for partnerships, sponsorships and donations to expand access to affordable healthcare delivery and improved family welfare packages.

“That is why the government has placed several thousands of our people on health insurance. What the Lekan Adewoye Foundation has done is uncommon. With the 1,000 lives covered today, you have given 1,000 people health. That is the gift of health for a whole year,” Ms El-Imam added.

The commissioner assured the foundation that the enrollees would get quality healthcare delivery with the ongoing upgrade of health facilities in the state.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, expressed appreciation to the foundation, adding that the government should not be left to cater to all the people’s needs.

She said there were about 85 accredited providers in both private and public sectors, and that implementation, sustainability and success of health insurance was everybody’s business.

“Every member of society has a part to play in ensuring that generations after us will continue to enjoy health insurance implementation. Health insurance brings succour to the people. It improves the economic status of any society by improving the health of the society,” the Executive Secretary said.
