Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has received a series of backlash from fans for denouncing his nationality.

“Me wey no even be Nigerian artist. 🤣😂,” Burna Boy tweeted in Pidgin English in response to a Twitter user who suggested the Grammy Award winner would soon be forced to leave the Nigerian Twitter community following increasing criticisms that he received state funds from Rivers governor Nyesom Wike during his homecoming party organised in his honour after the award.

The “Kilometre” crooner further explained that his successes did not come from Nigerians.

“I’m from here and I live here because I love my home and my people, E no pass like that. I don’t make money from Nigeria,” he tweeted.

Burna’s tweets has however angered his fans who took turns to slam him for belittling the massive support he got from Nigerians at the burgeoning stage of his career.

“But you are promoting African culture and you Are denying your own motherland, all for showbiz as usual lmao,” an angry fan @iamPetu, tweeted in a reply.

“You are indirectly saying, we the fans in Nigeria streaming your music are not adding anything to your growth,” @Enacruly tweeted.

Even Drake no fit come talk say him no dey make money from Nigeria,Disembark that capping,” @tovicezz tweeted.

Some fans, in contrast, are of the opinion that the “African Giant” had the right to push back against constant criticisms by his traducers.
