Germany thump Scotland 5-1 in Euro 2024 opening game

Hosts Germany started their Euro 2024 campaign on a delightful note after the German team thumped 10-man Scotland 5-1 in the opening game of the tournament at the Allianz Arena on Monday night.
Ten minutes into the game, Florian Wirtz continued where he left it with Bayer Leverkusen in their title-winning campaign last season as he fired a low shot from outside the box to the left bottom of the net to give Germany the lead.
Germany added to the advantage nine minutes later after Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala whipped a pass from Kai Havertz into the top right corner of the post before Havertz made it 3-0 from a penalty kick just before the halftime.
Scotland were reduced to 10-man from the foul that resulted in the penalty after Watford defender Ryan Porteous was sent off for a dangerous open boots challenge on German captain IIkay Gundogan inside the box.
Less than five minutes into his introduction, Niclas Fullkrug made it 4-0 for Germany from a rocket shot into the top right of the net after a clattering ball from Gundogan fell into the feet of the Borussia Dortmund striker.
In the 87th minute, Scotland entered into the scoresheet following an own goal by Antonio Rudiger who, with his head, redirected Scott McKenna’s header into his own net.
However, Emre Can won the second half for Germany with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area from an assist by Thomas Muller to kick the Germans up and running in the tournament.
