Brazil’s Hugo Calderano shuns WTT Lagos Contender over back pain

Brazil’s Hugo Calderano has pulled out of the 2024 WTT Lagos Contender starting on Wednesday, citing medical instruction due to lower back pain in the past few weeks, the world number six said in a statement on Tuesday.
“I am really sorry that I would not be able to make it to Lagos this year and I know many of you want to see me there but unfortunately, I have been dealing with lower back pain in the last few weeks and it got worse in the last few days in Slovenia,” Calderano said.
He recently participated in the WTT Star Contender Ljubljana, Slovenia where he won his second WTT Contender title and sixth WTT Series singles on Sunday and was due to fly to Nigeria for the WTT Contender Lagos but injury has now forced him out.
Calderano stated that he had been advised to pull out of the Lagos event by his doctor to take some time to rest and focus on his recovery, promising to visit Lagos soon.
“… so my doctor decided I should take some time off to rest, treat it and of course go back to top form soon but I really hope to go to Nigeria and play there in the near future,” the 27-year-old added.
