Rivers electoral commission to unveil timetable, guidelines for LG polls July 1

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) will unveil the timetable and guidelines for local government elections in the state on July 1, 2024.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli, chairman and chief electoral commissioner of RSIEC, disclosed this in a notice of general stakeholders’ meeting dated June 19, 2024.
According to the notice, the RSIEC chairman invited “Leaders of all registered Political Parties, traditional rulers, security agencies, religious organisations, the media, professional organisations, Civil Society Groups, Non-Governmental Organisations, Community-Based Groups and the electorate” to the meeting.
The notice revealed that the unveiling would be held at the general stakeholders’ meeting, which will be held at “the RSIEC Headquarters, 239-243 Aba Road, Port Harcourt, by 10.00 a.m. prompt.
“The highlight of the meeting will be the unveiling of the time-table and guidelines for the 2024 Local Government Elections in the State,” the RSIEC chairman revealed, and directed that “all concerned should be seated at the RSIEC Auditorium by 09:45 a.m.”
This notice comes just hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara swore in new caretaker chairmen for the 23 LGAs to replace the outgone chairmen whose tenures expired on Tuesday.
The governor had earlier in the day expressed his resolve to prevent tenure elongation and notified the newly inaugurated caretaker chairmen that their appointments would only be for a while because the polls would soon be conducted.
