Godwin Robinson, bishop of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Lafia, has called on Nigerian leaders to provide good governance that would propel steady growth and development in the nation.

The bishop, who decried the nation’s spate of insecurity and hunger, made the call during the 2024 Synod of the church on Sunday in Lafia.

The three-day annual event brought together church leaders to brainstorm, reflect, and review their activities and the affairs of the nation in general.

The event also provided an opportunity for church leaders to pray for God’s intervention in enhancing Nigeria’s spiritual stability and prosperity.

Mr Robinson called on politicians to provide purposeful leadership to restore the people’s dashed confidence and hope.

”The political class must focus on introducing policies and programmes that will bridge the widening gap between the rich and the poor. The essence of leadership is not just to amass wealth, but an opportunity to render selfless service to improve the living conditions of the people,” he said.

The bishop, however, called on Nigerians to be prayerful and not lose faith in God despite the current challenges.

Governor Abdullahi Sule stressed that citizens have a greater role to play in ensuring good governance.

The governor noted that, given the church’s unrelenting support, the state government would continue to implement people-driven policies that would stimulate growth and development in Nasarawa.
