Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo and chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) has said that in spite of obvious economic challenges, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has done very well for Nigerians.

He said this on Monday in Abuja while speaking with journalists at the party’s national secretariat, where he led some members of the forum on a visit to the party’s leadership.

The PGF is an umbrella body of all serving governors elected on the APC platform.

Mr Uzodimma, who spoke after a close-after meeting with the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the meeting was to keep in touch with the party’s leadership as its governors.

He said the meeting was also to show loyalty to the party’s leadership and commiserate with Mr Ganduje, who recently lost his mother-in-law since the governors were in Abuja.

“Politically speaking, we don’t need to over-flog the horse, the truth of the matter is that the APC has done very well in Nigeria.

“What is happening currently is a global economic problem,” the PGF chairman explained.

He added that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was putting policies in place to address the country’s current economic challenges, given the kind of situation he had encountered upon his assumption of office.

“I am very confident that very soon, Nigerians will be jubilant about how he has managed to navigate the waters,” Mr Uzodimma said.

He further said that the meeting was to show solidarity to the party’s national chairman and its other managers.

“Those who are serving us, the national leadership of our party, providing services, are managing our party’s day-to-day affairs.

“They are looking after the policies of the party and are in charge of its administration,” he said.

He added that as members and critical stakeholders of the party, the governors were committed to following and encouraging its leadership as a way of showing support and solidarity.

The Imo governor expressed optimism that the APC would emerge victorious in the forthcoming Sept. 21 Edo governorship election, saying, ”because it is in the majority.

“I am the chairman of the PGF and when I speak, I speak on behalf of my colleagues, 20 governors.

“A party like APC that is in control of 20 states out of 36, and also has produced a president and members of the Federal Executive Council in the majority.

“If the election is the game of numbers, it means the majority will win, which the other party can provide or boast of as such an asset.”

Mr Ganduje, in his remarks, expressed satisfaction that the governors visited, saying it was a big blessing to the party.

He said the party’s leadership was happy and confident in the governors and would do all it takes to maintain a good relationship with them.

Mr Ganduje added, ”Because the governors were assisting the party and making it proud as an institution, its leadership would also help to protect their interests.”
