Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday presented 25 Toyota Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the state.

In his address at the event in Akure, Mr Aiyedatiwa tasked the security agencies to work together to ensure protection of lives and property in the state.

The governor said that agencies that did not receive vehicles now would definitely benefit in the next batch.

Mr Aiyedatiwa assured of government’s intervention and support to security agencies to combat crime and to maintain law and order in the state.

He implored the security agencies to make good use of the vehicles and continue to work tirelessly to ensure the state security.

“It is no gainsaying that security agencies are pivotal to the overall security architecture of any society and this daunting task would sometimes require patrolling from one location to another.

“To help ease this important, yet herculean function, I thought it is imperative to make available these high-grade Toyota Hilux vehicles with a view to engendering excellent performance in the discharge of their security mandate to the people.

“As you are aware, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, recorded giant strides and left lasting legacies in the area of security, especially with the frontal role he played in the birth of Western Nigeria Security Network, code-named Amotekun Corps. And we all know the many successes recorded particularly with the synergy among all security stakeholders. I remain steadfastly committed to the cause of putting the security and safety of our people first,” he said.

The Secretary to the State Government, Tayo Oluwatuyi, said the government had been at the forefront of providing the needed ambience for security agencies to thrive.

Mr Oluwatuyi said the present government would not relent in its effort to rid the state of criminal activities.

Speaking with journalists, the state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, appreciated the governor for the gesture.

He said, “Today, I want to assure you and the citizens of Ondo State that these vehicles will be used solely for security purposes.’’
