PDP suspends national vice chair, Dan Orbih, over alleged ‘embarrassing’ utterances

The Peoples Democratic Party has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South South), Dan Orbih, over what the party described as his embarrassing activities and utterances ahead of the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election.
Making the disclosure in a statement, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the party’s National Working Committee unanimously arrived at the decision during its 588th meeting on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the PDP, after considering all issues and complaints, concluded that Mr Orbih’s actions and utterances were inconsistent with the provisions of the party’s constitution (as amended in 2017) as well as the demand of his office.
It read, “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party at its 588th meeting today, Wednesday, July 10, 2024 considered all issues, including complaints on the activities of the National Vice Chairman (South South), Chief Dan Orbih concerning the September 21, 2024 Governorship @election in Edo State.”
“The NWC at the meeting unanimously condemned the embarrassing actions and utterances of Chief Dan Orbih relating to the Edo State governorship primary election of our great party which actions and utterances are inconsistent with the provisions of the constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and the demand of his office as a national officer of the party.’’
The statement also indicated that the NWC set up a six-member committee, led by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate the issue pursuant to the provisions of the party’s constitution, stating that Mr Orbih would remain suspended “from participating in all meetings, activities and programmes of the NWC, pending the conclusion of investigation by the committee.”
The NWC however acknowledged Mr Orbih’s support and solidarity of the overwhelming majority of the people of the state rallying with the party and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, whose aligns with the will and aspiration of the people for continued massive development of the state on the party’s platform.
The NWC therefore charged leaders, stakeholders and party members in the state to remain united, focused and continue to work hard for the victory of our party and candidate in the governorship election.
