Machete-wielding man injures five in attack in Switzerland

A man wielding a machete injured a pregnant woman, a baby and three other people in an attack in the Swiss city of St. Gallen on Thursday, police said on Friday.
The alleged perpetrator is a 34-year-old man who was already known to have mental health problems.
According to the police, the man initially injured the heavily pregnant woman with a machete in his home on Thursday evening.
When her father came to help, he was also attacked and was seriously injured.
Other building residents became aware of what was happening and followed the perpetrator outside.
There, he injured a second woman, her three-month-old child and a neighbour who managed to restrain the 34-year-old.
All of the victims were hospitalised and required surgery. No one’s life is in danger, police said.
Gas and a spilt flammable liquid were found in the suspect’s flat. The house was evacuated due to the risk of explosion.
