U.S. Secret Service says Trump was allocated advanced tech protection before assassination attempt

In the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the United States Secret Service has rejected accusations of security negligence, stating the agency allocated advanced technology protection for his campaign.
The Secret Service has been accused of negligence by some sections of the public after bullets fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks glazed the ear of Mr Trump and left one rally attendee dead, with another seriously injured in an apparent failed assassination plot.
Following the incident, there were claims in the public that a member of Mr Trump’s team had reportedly requested additional security resources for the Republican nominee in the upcoming presidential election amid his campaign, but the Secret Service denied the request.
In response to the claims in a statement on Sunday, the Chief of Communications for the Secret Service, Anthony Guglielmi, dismissed the report as “false”, adding that the agency even provided additional security measures for Mr Trump’s campaign before the incident.
“There’s an untrue assertion that a member of the former president’s team requested additional security resources and that those were rebuffed. This is absolutely false,” said Mr Guglielmi.
He added, “In fact, we added protective resources and technology and capabilities as part of the increased campaign travel tempo.”
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and Mr Trump’s main challenger in the November presidential election called the assassination attempt on his opponent “sick” and confirmed that federal agencies had briefed him on the incident.
“There’s no place in America for this kind of violence,” the president said. “It’s sick. It’s sick. That’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. You cannot allow this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this.”
