NSCDC arraigns 4 for allegedly vandalising electricity cables in Enugu

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Monday, arraigned four persons before Federal High Court, Enugu for allegedly vandalising electricity cables.

The accused persons were Moses Timothy, Geoffrey Lawrence, Augustine Abila, and Caleb Kamiru.

They were arraigned on two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and alleged vandalism of underground armoured cables belonging to the Enugu State Rural Electrification Agency.

When the charges were read to them, the accused persons who had no counsel to represent them, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution counsel, Amaka Ekoh, however, told court to remand them at the Enugu Correction Centre, until they were able to get counsel.

The presiding judge, Justice F.O Ogunbanjo, ordered their remand at the Enugu Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter till Sept. 24, 25, and 26 for hearing.

Earlier, Ms Ekoh told the court that the accused persons had on July 1, at Kingsway/Aria Road, GRA, Enugu North Council Area and willfully removed underground armoured cables belonging to the Enugu State Rural Electrification Agency without appropriate authority.

She added that the offence they committed was contrary to Section 3 (6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap.M17 L.F.N 2004 and punishable under Section 1 (3).
