Teenager in court over alleged phone theft

An 18-year-old man, Semeko Atewon, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a phone valued at N150,000.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 5, at about 9.00.a.m. at Jackos filling station, Ibereko, Badagry, Lagos.
Mr Ekpe said that the defendant stole an Infinix Smart 8 phone, valued at N150,000, adding that he was later arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.
The offence, according to him, contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Mr N.A. Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
Mr Layeni said that one of the sureties must be a community leader, with evidence of payment of two years tax clearance.
He adjourned the case until August 26 for mention.
