The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Kaduna State University has resolved to embark on a two-week warning strike over issues concerning their welfare.

The union stated this in a notification letter addressed to KASU vice-chancellor Abdullahi Musa, signed by ASUU chair Peter Adamu and secretary Peter Waziri.

In the letter, the lecturers explained that the decision was reached at the union’s congress held on Thursday.

The union explained that the strike was to protest the non-payment of five months’ salaries from May to September 2022, 60 per cent of September 2017 and other withheld salaries of academic staff.

According to the union, other unresolved issues included Earned Academic Allowance from 2018 to date, pension remittances from 2009 to 2019 and Group Life Insurance for deceased academic staff from 2019 to date.

“The warning strike shall be embarked on by members in KASU, following approval by the ASUU National Executive Council Meeting, scheduled to hold in the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, between August 2 and 4, 2024,” the letter said.
