Constituents of Akure South/North Federal constituency, in Ondo State, have issued a one-month notice to their representative in the National Assembly, Derin Adesida to recall him over alleged non-performance.

The constituents, under the aegis of Akure Youths Forum, alleged Mr Adesida of failing to execute any meaningful projects and empower youths and women in the constituency.

The constituents, who threatened to commence the mobilisation of registered voters’ signatures in the two local government areas to initiate the recall process of Mr Adesida, alleged that some of the projects embarked upon by his predecessors had not been receiving attention.

In a statement by the leader of the constituents, James Adebowale, they accused the lawmaker representing the two Akure local government areas of abandoning the construction of a town hall initiated by former lawmaker, Afe Olowookere, who represented the constituency between 1999 and 2024.

They said, “It is time for Adesida to get set for his recall. We voted for him to give us good representation and not to abandon us and enrich himself, his family and a few people. We voted for him to bring dividends of democracy down to the people at the grassroots, but he has been quiet and there is nothing to point to as his achievement in the last year. We have not seen or heard where our House of Representative member empowers his people but he has been fixing street lights in front of his loyal supporters, his family, political families and friends’ houses.”

The constituents recalled that the last time they were empowered was during the tenure of Omolafe Adedayo, who also represented the constituency.

Demanding that Mr Adesida should come out with his scorecard in the last one year in the National Assembly, the constituents said the lawmaker had always been insensitive to their plight.

Peoples Gazette could not immediately get the reactions of Mr Adesida as all efforts to reach proved abortive.

But one of his aides who spoke to The Gazette under condition of anonymity, denied the allegations, saying the lawmaker was not ready to take issues with members of the constituents.

“We will not want to join issues with them but what they cannot deny is that Mr Adesida has done excellently well during his short period in the assembly. “He won’t abandon his constituents, not for my reason, he has put smiles on the faces of the people in his constituency and would do more, they just have to be patient with him,” he said.
