#EndSARS: October 16 highlights

The #EndSARS demonstrations are in the second week. Protesters have been gathering daily in major cities across Nigeria including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Jos, Abeokuta, Benin and Onitsha.
Authorities have been making statements and directives to address the peoples’ concerns but demonstrators insist they will not leave the roads until they can visibly see the implementation of measures to reform the police.
Government is also making other moves to get youths off the streets. Federal authorities have resumed negotiations with the university lecturers’ union ASUU to end their six-month strike. NYSC has also announced that orientation camps will be opened next month.
We’re learning that the government appears to be confused about how to handle the growing tension.
Our journalists are monitoring events relating to the movement and the highlights are here.
