Burna Boy mocks South Africans after white model emerges Miss SA 2024
Nigerian Grammy-winning artiste Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has mocked South Africans following the emergence of a white model, Mia Le Roux, as the winner of the Miss South Africa 2024 pageantry.
Burna Boy posted a photo of Le Roux on his Xaccount with the caption, “So after all that… [laughing emoji],” referencing the attacks on Nigerian-affiliated model Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina.
Le Roux, a descendant of the Dutch settlers known as Boers, a minority white population in South Africa, clinched the Miss South Africa 2024 title, defeating nine other contestants on Saturday. She is notable for being the first deaf person to win the crown.
Her victory followed the withdrawal of Adetshina, who is of Nigerian and Mozambican heritage. Adetshina faced backlashes over her nationality and was involved in a controversy regarding her mother’s alleged fraud and identity theft.
South African singer Tyla has also condemned the bullying faced by Adetshina, expressing disappointment in the treatment the model received.
Tyla voiced her support for Adetshina via her X handle, stating: “Disappointed that this happened to her, but wish you all the best, girl. Kill it!”
She added, “I will always stand with South Africa; I just feel regardless of the opinions… She was bullied, and that’s what I don’t stand for.”
Meanwhile, Le Roux will receive a cash prize of $53,371 (R1 million), a Mercedes Benz, and a fully furnished luxury apartment.
