Kano LG Polls: NNPP asks aspiring chairpersons, councillors to resign

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano has given up until the end of this month to all the aspiring caretaker chairpersons and councillors in the 44 local governments to resign.
”Those of them wishing to contest in the forthcoming local government elections in the state should resign their appointments,” the party said.
The chair of the party, Hashimu Dungurawa, gave the directive while addressing journalists in Kano on Tuesday.
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission(KANSIEC) has scheduled November 30 to conduct the chairmanship and councillorship elections in the 44 local governments.
Mr Dungurawa said the directive was necessary to enable them to prepare well for the polls. He then announced the party’s fees for election nominations, stating that each chairmanship aspirant would pay N500,000 for the nomination form and N100,000 as fees for expressing interest.
Also, those seeking councillorship positions would pay N150,000 for nomination forms and N50,000 as expression of interest fees.
Mr Dungurawa said the party fixed the “moderate fees” considering the current economic hardships in the country.
He, however, endorsed the commission’s fees at N10 million for chairmanship and N5 million for councillorship, describing the charges as appropriate.
According to Mr Dungurawa, persons contesting for those local government positions should be financially sound, demonstrating the ability to manage financial resources effectively.
On women’s participation in the forthcoming polls, Mr Dungurawa said the party encouraged its female members to participate in the elections.
