Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has sympathised with Thursday’s flood victims and promised to provide immediate support.

Mr Fintiri made the pledge when he visited the victims in Shuwa and Kirchinga communities in Madagali Local Government Area (LGA) on Sunday.

The flood claimed six lives and cut off the Shuwa Bridge linking Adamawa and Borno states, with houses, shops, and other valuables destroyed.

Mr Fintiri expressed the need for the Nigeria Meteorological Agency’s (NIMET) desk officer to liaise with the state government on the timely sensitisation of communities predicted to experience flooding in the state.

According to him, his administration and federal government are ready to fix the bad conditions and to build more bridges on the Madagali/Michika highway to ease challenges faced on the road.

Simon Shashi, executive chairman, Madagali LGA, said the state government has deployed relief materials to the victims, which were being distributed in various IDP camps.

Ladan Ayuba, head of operation National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed six persons dead and 14,000 displaced.

According to him, other communities affected include: Kirchinga, Duhu, Mayowandu, Jahili, Kokohu, Lumadu, Zhau, Palam, Kwambula, and Shuware.
