Police arraign man for iron rod theft in Ekiti

A 25-year-old man, Akindayo Adedoyin, appeared at an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrates’ court on Friday for allegedly stealing an iron rod valued at N250,000.
The defendant who is of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 19, at 11:00 a.m., in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole an iron rod valued at N250,000, which was the property of the Ekiti State government.
Mr Adeniyi said the offence contravened section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant him bail and promised he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until September 18 for a hearing.
