Iwalewa FC beat host SDK in division two qualifier

Iwalewa Football Club of Saki on Wednesday defeated hosts Sult De King FC of Ibadan 1-0 in the first leg match of their Nationwide League Division Two qualifier.
In the match played at the Olubadan Stadium before a handful of spectators, Basit Awujoola, gave the Saki side the lead in the 52nd minute.
In spite of their immediate fightback, SDK FC could not utilise their goal scoring chances to draw level at least.
Commenting later on the game, coach of SDK FC, Lawal Ige, said his team lost the game because his players were overwhelmed with anxiety being the home team.
Mr Ige said, “They failed to calm the game down early. Football is all about winning, drawing or losing. We lost our scoring chances. We were supposed to have wrapped up the game in the first half, but we wasted almost four goalscoring chances. But we are going back to correct our mistakes and re-strategise for the second leg game at Saki Township Stadium.’’
On his part, the coach of Iwalewa FC, Adebayo Adeyinka, said his team would not rest on their laurels even with the first leg match victory.
”We will prepare more for the second leg game coming up on September 9 at our home ground,” he said.
