Police arrest two Bauchi varsity students for stealing prayer mat, shoes

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University for alleged criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.
In a statement on Friday, the state police spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, said operatives arrested the suspects after a member of the public reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Yelwa, about the alleged assault of two students.
The police spokesperson identified the suspects as “Bamusa Bako, a 25-year-old 400-level student of Urban and Regional Planning, and Yusuf Umar, a 28-year-old 500-level student of Industrial Design, both from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Yelwa Campus.”
He said findings “suggest that the suspects conspired and broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400-level student of Estate Management at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
“They allegedly made away with, one 32-inch Hisense TV, one DSTV decoder, one woofer, one speaker, one pair of shoes, one blanket, one prayer mat,” it added.
Mr Wakil said the suspects admitted to committing the offence and that the investigation was ongoing.
He said the students claimed they intended to use the proceeds from the theft to finance their final-year project defence.
Mr Wakil urged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
