Catholic bishop distributes foodstuffs to 150 families, IDPs in Adamawa

Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza, has distributed foodstuffs to 150 Internally Displaced Persons and households in Adamawa State.
Mr Manza explained during the event at Jabbi-Lamba, Gerei Local Government Area on Thursday that the distributed items were procured in collaboration with the Mission Take Heart for the victims of 2024 flood and drought in the state.
He said, “September 29 every year is a day to commemorate the World Day of Refugees, Migrants and IDPs. This gesture is to commemorate that day. We shifted it to today to enable the support of foodstuffs from our partner Mission Take Heart to arrive.’’
Mr Mamza urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to feed their families and warned against selling them.
He called on the beneficiaries to pray for the donor for their benevolence in helping the less-privileged people in society.
He encouraged them to be proactive in looking for what to do to assist their families instead of waiting for such assistance.
The bishop further called on them to enroll their children in schools as most schools had commenced for the first term.
Ignatius Vandu, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the gesture, saying that the material came at the right time as many were currently passing through hardship and hunger.
The foodstuffs distributed included bags of maize, rice, groundnuts and sugar among others
