ACF creates two committees to tackle bandits, terrorists in North

The board of trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum has established two special committees to address critical issues affecting northern Nigeria.
This development followed a resolution reached during its September 4, 2024 BOT meeting.
In a statement on Sunday, the forum announced the formation of the Unity, Peace and Reconciliation and Security Committees.
According to ACF, the committee, to be chaired by Yayale Ahmed, was set up in response to the growing tension among the various communities in the North.
He said its mandate was to propose effective mechanisms to restore unity and promote peaceful coexistence through regular consultations and dialogue.
The security committee, chaired by Abdulrahman Dambazau, was formed to address the region’s perennial insecurity.
The committee will provide recommendations to mitigate the escalating security challenges and reduce the devastating impact on the people.
Bashir Dalhatu and Wazirin Dutse inaugurated both committees in Abuja on September 30 and October 1, 2024, respectively.
They are expected to submit their reports by mid-November 2024.
The ACF will review these reports and engage with northern state governors before presenting them to the federal government and the relevant security agencies.
