Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo has pledged to dualise the notorious Akungba Akoko road in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

The road, which links the state with border towns and communities in Kogi state, has been a nightmare for travellers due to incessant road crashes.

This road, which also leads to the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has claimed the lives of many students and their parents.

Speaking on Monday, Mr Aiyedatiwa said the road needed reconstruction to curb the frequent accidents along the route.

The governor, who spoke during an interaction with some market women and youths of the community while on his campaign rally to Ikare Akoko in the northern senatorial district of the state, vowed that an overhead bridge would be constructed on the road.

He explained that the government had, in the last few months, considered various options before settling on the dualisation of the road and the overhead bridge.

“The dualisation of the road will start from Ikare Akoko and run through the frontage of the main gate of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko,” the governor said.

While noting that his administration has no plans to remove the barricades initially placed on the road, the governor pleaded with the people to rally behind the APC in the upcoming off-cycle November 16 governorship election.

He emphasised that the future of the state depends on the continuity of the party’s developmental agenda, noting that his administration would do more for the state if given the chance to continue in power.

“On November 16, I urge everyone gathered here and those who are not present to convert your support into votes for the APC to ensure the continuation of our significant progress in the state,” he added.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, who is also Mr Aiyedatiwa’s running mate, stressed the importance of continuity in governance.

Mr Adelami stated that the state had witnessed remarkable development under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.

“But we must not stop here. We need to push forward for even greater accomplishments. The coming election is not just about electing a governor. It’s about safeguarding our future and the progress we have made,” the deputy governor said.

He called on the people to come out in large numbers and vote for the APC, saying their vote would help sustain continuous governance.
