Nursing, midwifery council inducts 68 Edo varsity graduates

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has inducted 68 nurses from the Department of Nursing Sciences, Edo State University, Uzairue.
Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Dawood Egbefo, stated this at the oath-taking and induction ceremony for the 2023/2024 qualified graduate nurses on Wednesday in Edo State.
Mr Egbefo explained that the university had equipped the graduates to tackle challenges in the nursing profession.
He reminded the graduating class of the significant responsibilities that come with being a nurse, emphasising that the profession demanded deep compassion, continuous learning, and professionalism.
He said, “As future leaders in healthcare, you bear the crucial responsibility of caring for the vulnerable and the ailing.’’
The Acting VC commended the state government for converting the central hospital Auchi to Edo State University Teaching Hospital, a move he said marked a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to provide quality healthcare services.
However, he urged the government to provide adequate facilities at the hospital to offer top-notch healthcare services.
Registrar of the NMCN, Ndagi Al-Hassan, represented by Deputy Director, Dorothy Oneh, congratulated the graduates and wished them a successful career ahead.
She emphasised the importance of adhering to the rules of professional conduct, which are ethical guidelines binding on every nurse in Nigeria.
Earlier, a lecturer in charge of the Department of Nursing, Beatrice Obende, welcomed the guests and highlighted the unique value of the nursing profession in adding value to patient care, impacting patient wellbeing, and preserving patient rights.
“As you embark on your nursing journey, remember that your profession is not just a career but a calling to make a difference in lives,” she said.
The induction ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter for the 68 graduate nurses, who are now certified to work in any health facility in the country.
