LASBCA reseals four buildings over violation of safety, construction standards

The Lagos State Government has resealed four buildings for contravening building and safety regulations.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Director, Public Affairs for the Building Control Agency, Adu Ademuyiwa.
The statement noted, “The Lagos State Building Control Agency has resealed four buildings across the state due to different contraventions of building regulations. The buildings located in various parts of Lagos were found to be in violation of multiple safety and construction standards.’’.
The LASBCA General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, said the resealing of the buildings across the state was part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with building regulations to protect lives and property of residents.
LASBCA in the statement stated that the affected structures had previously been marked for contraventions, including unauthorized construction, non-compliance with approved building plans and failure to obtain necessary permits.
Mr Oki said, “We cannot afford to overlook violations that put the safety of lives and property at risk. The resealing exercise is to ensure that building owners comply with all necessary requirements before continuing any construction.”
Stating that the agency would go ahead with inspections and enforcement exercises across the state, the LASBCA GM warned that any building found to be in violation, would face appropriate penalties, including resealing and possible demolition.
He advised property owners to seek approvals before commencing constructions, and encouraged members of the public to report to the authorities any suspected illegal building activities in their neighbourhoods.
