Dare, Bianca-Ojukwu, Oduwole, five others appointed, 10 redeployed as Tinubu sacks five ministers

In a major cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu sacked five ministers, appointed seven and redeployed 10. 

Those affected are Minister of Women Affairs, Uju-Ken Ohanenye; Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman; Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Gwarzo; and the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim.

Also, Mr Tinubu appointed a former sports minister, Sunday Dare, as his Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.  

The Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the disclosures in a statement shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Mr Tinubu reassigned portfolios to some ministers and to the newly appointed ones pending ratification by the Senate. 

Those appointed included Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda and Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi.   

Others are Minister of Livestock Development Federal Ministry; Idi Maiha; Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata and the Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Ahmad. 

The President also reassigned new portfolios to some ministers. The Minister of State Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, is now the Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Former Minister State for Health, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, becomes Minister of Education, while former Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Goronyo, is now the Minister of State for Works;

Also, Senator Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Niger Delta Development becomes the new Minister of Regional Development; while the Minister of State Steel Development, Uba  Ahmadu is now Minister of State Regional Development; and the former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anitet, is now the Minister of State, Finance. The former Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, is the new Minister of State for Trade and Investment; while the former Minister of State, Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, is now the Minister of Women Affairs; the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, becomes the substantive Minister for Youth Development; and the former Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Salako Adeboye, is now the Minister of State for Health.

The President thanked the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council for their service to the nation while wishing them the best in their future endeavours. He also charged the newly appointed ministers and those with reassigned portfolios to see their appointment as a call to serve the nation.
