Lagos: KAI arrests eight over possession of hard drugs

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, have arrested eight suspects over possession of hard drugs during a clearance operation in Obanikoro.
In a post on his official X handle on Friday, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the suspects were caught with various illicit drugs.
He said, “The operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial (KAI) conducted a clearance operation around the area and arrested eight miscreants with substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other hard drugs.”
According to the commissioner, the suspects have been profiled and will be charged in accordance with the state’s relevant law.
He said the operations were carried out in response to a complaint on X by a resident identified as @omotayo_ajadi about the state of security around Obanikoro Bus Stop.
The resident stated that miscreants, some alleged Chadian nationals, take refuge, sleeping at night at the bus stop and smoking drugs in the morning.
“I just want to call your attention to what is happening at the Obanikoro bus stop. There are some Hausa/Nigerian/Chadian guys behind the bus stop. They sleep there overnight, gather in the morning, and smoke Indian hemp and other drugs. Please do something about it,” the resident tweeted.
Byline is Mayowa Samuel.
