Suzanne Myada, the team lead of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), supported the State2State project activity and has tasked Adamawa government officials on good governance.

Mr Myada made the call on Saturday in Yola at the end of a five-day pilot test organised for the officials on the use of internal control self-assessment for good governance in the state.

The government officials drawn from education, health, water and sanitation sectors and other relevant public financial management (PFM) MDAs were urged to apply the knowledge acquired into practice for accountability, transparency and effectiveness in their places of work.

“The purpose of our assessment is to identify what are we doing well that we should sustain and where are the gaps and how can we improve on it to develop,” she said.

Allahdon Kenan, a State2State’s PFM specialist, said the training on the usage of the self-assessment tool by the staff would go a long way in ensuring prudence and accountability in government activities.

“We support selected MDAs from the priority sectors to test run and diagnose their internal control environment using the self-assessment tool.

“It is expected to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of partner states’ government financial operations,” said Mr Kenan.

Ismail Adeleye, a consultant, urged the participants to be good ambassadors and advocates of the internal control system in the state.

“Now that you know the details of internal control in terms of the five components and 16 principals, we expect you to put it into practice in your various MDAs.

“I can assure you the difference will be seen at the end of the day in terms of both finance and administration,” he said.

Samuel Kwaji, who spoke on behalf of the participants, described the programme as a welcome development that would ensure effective service delivery.
